The Downy Woodpecker is a bird native to North America, Mexico and parts of Central America. It fits in the Picidae bird family and is quite small, measuring only 6.5 to 9 inches long. While they often inhabit forests and wooded parks, they can also be found living in residential areas where bird seed is provided.
