Do Kestrels hunt during the day?

The kestrel is a small, diurnal hawk that has the remarkable ability to hover in one spot while hunting. It can be found in open fields and light forests across North and South America, Europe, and Africa. With excellent eyesight and the ability to soar above their prey, kestrels are capable of hunting a wide variety of small creatures including mice, voles, and lizards. Characteristic markings on the chest make it easy to identify the species – cinnamon wings with black wingtips and two vertical dark stripes down each side. These beautiful creatures have evolved to fit perfectly in grassland, meadow, or riverbank environments. All told, the range of kestrels' abilities truly make them special among raptors.
