Northern Flicker Mug with Color Inside
Northern Flicker Mug with Color Inside
The northern flicker is a large, attractive woodland bird found throughout much of North America. All year it can be seen gleaning from the ground and drumming with its bill against a dead branch. The northern flicker is easily identified thanks to its unique, flashy plumage and foraging habits. Male birds feature red and black spotted wings, while females have tan-colored barring on their wings. Nesting in abandoned woodpecker holes, the northern flicker will often use snags or even buildings as habitat if they cannot find a suitable nest site in trees. Northern Flickers dine on bugs and larva they find while searching through the surface of the ground underground! What's more, they were even known to crack open ice blocks during harsh winter months to get to invertebrates beneath the surface.
