Osprey Hover Framed poster
The osprey, also known as the sea hawk, is a raptor with a wide distribution across Eurasia, Africa and the Americas. These impressive birds can be identified by their unique brown and white striped wings, mottled brown bodies, and telltale diamond shapes on their tails when in flight. Ospreys are powerful fliers that have evolved to feed almost exclusively on fish, which they capture with their powerful talons after diving feet-first into water to snag their prey. Their incredible vision is beneficial for hunting fish in the pond or lake of their choice; ospreys can spot a fish from over 100 yards away! Ospreys build large nests usually near water or wetlands, which are traditionally used year after year. Over the last century however, they have faced many challenges due to human activity such as water pollution and pesticide contamination. Despite this adversity, they continue to thrive worldwide even today - an amazing testament to their resilience!
